Janus Project - Autobiographical Theatre
To reach the stage, various Artistic Cohabitation Residencies are created where Expressive Arts, using «Dramatherapy» are the most suitable way to link the phases of «Autobiographical Theater». Director Domingo Ferrandis has called this combination the «Bidirectional Methodology».Autobiographical theater allows participants to narrate and listen to stories that connect within the group, generating limbic resonance that transforms the experience into empathy and self-empathy, in an act of self-understanding, liberation, empowerment, and resilience. It also gives them the opportunity to become co-authors and actors embodying characters in situations like their own, allowing them to show the audience, without taboos or stereotypes, their everyday lives, often invisible or ignored by a part of society. At the same time, the cast becomes activists for their own issues, vulnerabilities, or circumstances, helping other people in the audience to find ways, to ask for help, or to denounce their situation. On the other hand, the characters and the plot provide reflections to help parents, relatives, friends, politicians, educators, and the public to better relate to mental health, with their loved ones, their students, or to improve prevention, care, and health policies. This is understood as a salutogenic approach, addressing mental health issues from a positive perspective, focusing on the well-being and quality of life of individuals.
